The team of international android developer based from India is working on software which automatically detects the stuffs you looking for from eyes movement. This software will manage all android devices by eyes movement such as opening apps, read emails, play games and other usual stuffs.
The researchers are collecting data of eye behavior from different country and region to prepare eye tracking cheap. The developer team of Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Germany, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and University of Georgia in the US, have trained software to identify the target location of eyes accurately by 1 centimeter in smart phone and 1.7 cm in Tablet.
The software is not enough for android apps operation. In future, the accuracy will improve with more data efforts according to Aditya Khosla the team member of MIT.
The researchers are collecting data how eye’s retina look on particular smart phone object in different environment by making an android app GazeCapture.
The front camera record the user’s gaze as they were shown pulsating dots on an android device screen. To get 100% accurate data, the app then show a dot with an “L” or “R” surrounded by it, and user had to tap the left or right side of the screen in response.
The GazeCapture data then used to train software called iTracker which may runs in iphone. The phone’s camera captures your face, and the software judges factors like the direction and position of your head and eyes to figure out where your gaze is focused on the screen.
The developer has collected data from 1500 people GazeCapture app so far, the iTracker error rate can be solved by half centimeter if they can get data from 10000 people, which should be good enough for a range of eye-tracking applications said by Mr Khosla.
The technology required additional hardware and this software is expensive which makes this technology complex to compatible with android gadgets. So you may need to buy new device to experience this technology. Your eyes will be exercised automatically by gaze movement, its hidden benefit of this technology. The research update has been announced in IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition in Seattle, Washington.
